Totting Up Points
Any driver receiving 12 points in any 3 year period will receive a driving ban for a minimum of 6 months.
Newly Qualified Drivers And Points
Any driver accumulating 6 points within the first 2 years after passing their driving test will have their driving licence revoked.
They will then have to:
- Apply for a provisional driving licence
- Only drive with a suitable accompanying driver and display L plates
- Retake the theory and practical driving tests
Any points already on the driving licence at the time of passing the driving test will count towards the 6 point total that would result in the driving licence being revoked.
If a driver already has 6 points on their driving licence before they pass the driving test, the licence is not immediately revoked, but any further points after passing the driving test will result in driving licence revocation.
